• South-West coach builder Vaile is poised for expansion following a large cash injection which has enabled it to target Ministry of Defence and fleet work.
The investment comes from retired businessman Norman Thompson who has joined the Dorset-based firm as chairman. His son Paul also joins the board.
The pair were invited to join by brothers Norman and Eddie Higgins, owners of Vaile, which has a turnover of 2.6m. The Thompson investment, described by Eddie Higgins as "substantial", will enable Vaile to increase its staff from 60 to 80 in the next few months.
Given the state of the industry Eddie Higgins admits that the new money is a risk investment but he believes Norman Thompson recognises the growth potential in his 90-year-old firm.
