• TNT Newsfast has won a major magazine distribution contract with publishers News International-Hachette to deliver the 285,000 circulation monthly Elk and the 600,000 circulation fortnightly Sky titles. The company reckons that it now has the fastest turnaround times, from printing to delivery, of any magazine operation in the UK.
Elk will be able to shave three days off its previous schedules says News International, and TNT will have an exclusive distribution deal for the two papers in both the UK and in Europe. TNT Newsfast is committed to delivering Sky, a new magazine aimed at the 16 to 20 age group, right across the UK and throughout Europe from Helsinki to Marseilles by the Monday morning following a Saturday print run.
Peter Jackson, managing director of News InternationalHachette, says that Sky will be delivered to 350 British wholesalers serving 30,000 retail outlets.
Around 130,000 of Sky's 600,000 copies will be taken out to Europe and the new magazine will be picked up by TNT Newsfast from Eastleigh in Hampshire and from Caerphilly in south Wales. TNT has provided special trucks to ensure that the magazines travel smoothly through West Germany's restrictive freight regulations.
