Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Container traffic through the Port of Felixstowe during 1986 has risen by more than 23% to a record 639,460 containers.

This compares with a 1985 figure of 518,443 which was itself a record as the first time any UK port exceeded a halfmillion containers in a year.

Much of this year's increase is due to the port's new Trinity Container Terminal which became fully operational midway through 1986 and had handled almost 117,000 containers by the end of the year.

Overall tonnage reached a new high of 10,536,632 tonnes, compared with 1985's 10,035,000 tonnes.

RO-RO traffic decreased from 3,348,133 tonnes to 2,371,805 tonnes which, the port claims, was due to seamen's industrial action.
