• In 1986 the Road Haulage Association made a surplus of £212,000, down almost £90,000 on the 1985 figure. The fall results from reduced income from carnets following Spain and Portugal's entry into the EEC, and a £59,000 inci ease in the RHA's tax bill.
During 1986 the RHA suffered a drop in total membership, but an increase in income from members to £1,014,543 as those members made greater use of the associatin's services.
This year the RHA plans the development of a computer system linking all of its offices and it is currently undertaking a survey of its membership to discover what services should be developed for the future.
• Wincanton Vehicle Rentals has won a major contract with Trebor Group member TGD to supply the nationwide distribution company with over 90 commercial vehicles over the next five years.
This is the first time TGD has entered into contract hire, and as part of the deal, Wincanton has bought part of its fleet for around £1 million, releasing the vehicles to Trebor on a full contract hire basis.
New vehicles will be asigned to the fleet by Wincanton as present vehicles reach the end of their operating life.
