Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

drawbar trailer, but I am not sure that our existing rigid units would be suitable in relation to permitted weights. Could you enlighten me on what gross weights are permitted with drawbar outfits?

A The permitted laden weights of drawbar outfits are laid down in Regulation 81 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1973.

Subsection (1) lays down that the total laden weight of a wheeled or track-laying trailer together with that of the wheeled or track-laying drawing unit shall not exceed 22,360kg (22.007 tons).

However, Subsection (1) (a) allows a laden weight of 24,390kg (24.005 tons) where both drawing unit and trailer are wheeled vehicles.

When certain conditions regarding brakes are fulfilled, Subsection (1) (b) allows a laden weight of 32,520kg (32.006 tons). These conditions are that the trailer is fitted with power-assisted brakes which can be operated by the driver of the drawing vehicle and which are not rendered inoperative by the non-rotation of the engine of the drawing vehicle.

The drawing vehicle must also be fitted with a warning device, visible to the driver when seated at the wheel, to indicate impending failure or deficiency in the vacuum or pressure system. The Regulations regarding the maintenance of a power/weight ratio of six brake horsepower per ton must also be conformed with.
