pRICED at £17 10s., a combined welding and cutting set; introduced by the D. S. Baddeley Engineering Co., Ltd., 43-45 York Street, Glasgow, C.2, may, it is stated, be used to join material of from Ali-4 in. thick and cut steel

4 in. thick, so that a user can Undertake all but the heaviest class of work.

The blowpipe can be employed only with dissolved acetylene, or acetylene from a highpressure generator or booster. To weld different thicknesses of metal, the operator has only to change the nozzle, and an extension is provided for use in conjunction with the larger nozzles. The mixing chamber permits the use of moderate • pressures of oxygen and acetylene.

The blowpipe is converted for cutting by removing the welding head and attaching the' cutting head. The Baddeley equipment is contained in a compact wooden box. The components are light but robust.

Brighter Lights FI,UORESCENT light units which can operate from either a 12v. or 24v. D.C. source are produced by the Plessey Co., Ltd., Ilford, Essex, and marketed under the Eascolyte trade name.

Claimed to provide two to three times the light obtained from equivalent ffia ment lamps, these units should be of interest to coach operators and manufacturers as they give a great amount of illumination with low current consumption. The units will operate under large variations of input voltase and continue to operate when only 75 per cent. of the nominal voltage is applied to the power pack. Radio interference can be suppressed.

Transfer Tape ADOUBLE-SIDED . transfer tape, expected to have a number of applications throughout industry, is a new product of Evode, Ltd., Common Road, Stafford.. Known as twinstick, the tape is made of tissuc, impregnated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive which, in turn, is covered by paper. It is available in .widths up to 1 ft., and can be applied to most surfaces to provide a durable bond.

For use, the tape is unrolled and stuck on a wall -or other plane. The paper. is peeled off the outside surface to expose another adhesive area to . which light articles or light sheet materials may be applied, a bond being .formed immediately on contact.

Chrome Cleaner A CHROME cleaner has been intro duced by E. R. Howard, Ltd., Ipswich and is sold under the 3-1n-One trade name. It is claimed that this product not only removes all tarnish and dislocation fromthe surface of the chrome deposit, caused by atmospheric oxidization of the base metal, but seals off pores or cracks in the chrome layer, preventing further corrosion.'

Previously this battery was fitted with single Porvie separators, but a dual form of separation has now been adopted which consists of Porvic plates with felted glass wool sandwiched between them. Although primarily designed for A.E.C. goods vehicles this battery is suitable, and available for, many other applications.

Transformer Plug A TRANSFORMER plug which P3. reduces mains potential to /5v. has been producd by the Dohm Group, 167

Victoria Street, London, S.W.1. It is robustly constructed and encased in hard oil-resistant rubber, but is little bigger than an ordinary mains plug. It is of the three-pin type, and is particularly suitable for use with garage inspection lamps.

Adhesive Plates A S a further addition to their range of Tickotab. products; John Gosheron and Co.; Ltd., Albert Embankment, London, S.E.11, have introduced a range of self-adhesive name plates.

These plates, which can be supplied in any shape or size, are offered in a variety of base materials, such as p.v.c., Ivorine or brass, and in a number of different finishes: They are claimed to adhere successfully to metals, wood, glass, plastic, rubber and other surfaces. To affix the plate it is necessary only to remove the protective backing and press it in 'position.
