MACHINERY-TOWING CASE BEFORE BENCH

A PROSECUTION arising from the I-1towing of a four-wheeled steelshearing machine by a lorry came before Dudley magistrates, last week. John Thomas Round, Jack Mondon and Noel Francis Evans, trading as Evans and Mondon, Netherton, pleaded guilty on three charges of using a motor vehicle not covered by insurance, having no brakes on a trailer and having no distinguishing. marks on a trailer.

Mr. 0. L. Bergendorff, for the defence, said that the defendants had made a genuine mistake, not thinking that the machine would constitute a trailer. "Having looked up a recent judgment given by the Lord Chief Justice that a four-wheeled poultry shed, when towed by a lorry, becomes a trailer, I am forced to advise my clients to plead guilty." he said. Evans and Mondon were discharged absolutely. Round was fined El on each of the charges and his licence to drive heavy vehicles was suspended for a year.
