Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN spite of the threat of nationalizaItiort, operators still had the spirit to carry on the traditions of road transport to the full, said Mr. E. F. Topham, presenting the awards at the Bolton vehicle parade on May 3. The condition of the machines to be seen was a credit to the workers.

The industry, had always had a tradition of individual enterprise and service, and this was not the time to try to substitute a vast experiment for the successful methods of the past, continued Mr. Topham, It was impossible to see any nationalized body giving to the business community such facilities as were offered by the operators of to-day. Road transport, it could be said with confidence, rarely failed the country's industry.

The show might be regarded as a successor to the May parades, popular in the North, at which the old horse drivers proudly displayed their charges. Organization was in the hands of the Bolton Transport and Trading Co., Ltd., a body that was the outcome of a local grouping system, and acts jointly for its members in various ways, including the bulk purchase of supplies.

Altogether there were 69 entries for the parade, and the silver cup for the neatest, cleanest and best-maintained vehicle on show was awarded to Mr. Alfred Martin for his Thornycroft Sturdy. Following the presentation of the prizes, all the vehicles took part in a procession through the town.

Prizewinners were as follows:— Neatest, cleanest and best-maintained vehicle on show: I, Mr. A. Martin. 2, Mr. A. Martin. 3, Reliance Motors, Ltd, Best over one year but under five year old: I, Mr. A . Martin. 2, Messrs. Enterprise Garage. 3, Messrs. B. Kay and Sons. Best over five years: 1, Mr.. A.
