APART from actual chassis there is a number of adaptations NIwhich chassis, and particularly thoso for the Ford van and ton truck, can have their load-carrying capacities increased. Amongst the most recent is the Carrimore two-wheel attachment for converting any chassis into a tractor lorry. The device is made by Carrosserie Latymer, Ltd., Panther Street. Works, Notting Hill, London, W. In fitting this attachment a turntable, pivoted on each side and restricted from rocking by strong spiral springs, is attached to the chassis. Perhaps the best-known devices which are constructed purely for Ford chassis are made by Baico Patents, Ltd., 115, Fulham Road, London. S.W.3. The first of these devices is designed for use with the light model Ford, It consists of a frame, complete with rear springs, brackets to hold the Ford axle (which then becomes a countershaft) and 8
powerful, solid rear axle carrying disc wheels. This chassis is placed in position with its side-members over those of the Ford frame. The Ford wheels are removed and chain sprockets fitted. Stout radios rods are provided between the countershaft (Ford axle) and the Baico axle. The complete vehicle will carry 30-cwt. loads.
The other Bairn device is called the Supertonna, and increases the capacity of the Ford ton truck to 30 cwt. It has a frame giving 3 ft. extra loading space, and is provided with semi-elliptic springs which clip on to the Ford axle, tips being strengthened by a stout truss rod.
BrameĀ° (1920), Ltd., St. Nicholas Street, Coventry, are concessionnaires for the Olson conversion sets. The largest of those converts the light Ford chassis into a 2-ton truck. The rear wheels of this unit are provided with internal gears5 the pinions of which are carried
on the Ford axle .driving shafts in lieu of the wheels. Other sets are made for increasing the load capacity to one ton, and for extending the chaOsis.
The Eros adapter for converting a Fiord chassis into a 30-cwt. is marketed by Morris, Russell and Co., Ltd.. 68-70, Great Eastern Street, London, E,C, It is made in two models, one to carry 20 cwt., and the other 30-35 cwt. Each consists of a partial frame and a loadcarrying axle, the Ford axle having its wheels removed and being used with pinions to drive internal gear rings in the rear wheels.
We must not conclude without. ref erring to the Realorry. It is made by the Realorry Co., Ltd., 155 Mount Ephraim, Tunbridge Wells, and consists of a stout frame carried by .semi-elliptic springs, the whole being attached to the Ford chassis. A truss rod is fitted to strengthen the axle.
