Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YOU MAY HAVE noted Detective Sergeant Mark Hooper's comments in CM 16 February — it appears that my (perhaps cynical) previously reported thoughts about Chrys Rampley's optimistic views appear to have been ill-founded. And lam normally an optimist myself, except where the police are concerned.

Mark Hooper says that any continuation of a specialist police unit is unlikely unless funded by the industry! If this proves to be the case —and in this new era of so-called 'partnerships', we cannot expect the police to tell the industry —will the industry really sit on its hands amid a spiralling increase in crime figures again?

In fact, you only have to read Commercial Motor to see the way that the buck is now being passed. Look at the article in the same issue, headed `Crime wave breaks over Felixstowe', where the police say that the problem is not theirs but the port's!
