• Freight Rover, has created 50 new jobs to help boost vehicle production from 436 a week to 525.
More than £750,000 has been spent on new equipment and managing director, Jim Donaghy says that Leyland Daf plans to invest £100 million. "In fact," says Donaghy, "it will be the largest investment Leyland Daf has ever made, anywhere."
Two new rolling roads and a paint shop have been installed by Freight Rover, which built 20,500 vehicles in 1988 to meet rising export demands.
Ill Peugeot and Freight Rover have signed a deal under which the French company will supply 2.5-litre diesel and turbo-diesel engines and five-speed gearboxes for the Sherpa van. It is expected that up to 15,000 engines a year will be supplied.
