Liverpool this week — a baby girl born in the cab of his Renault G290.
Holdsworth picked up the hitch-hiking mother on a trip to Frigoscandia in Kirby from his Grimsby-based employers, David B Graves.
"I still can't believe it happened," Holdsworth told Commercial Motor "10 minutes before we arrived, the girl started to complain of stomach pains. I went to a canteen and by the time I got back, the baby's head was showing."
After the initial shock, Holdsworth enlisted the help of a young vet from the local abbatoir to bring the baby into the world until the emergency ser
vices arrived. "The mother is now fine and the baby is over the critical stage, although it is still in an incubator," says Holdsworth. "I shall regard the truck in a special way after this."
