• Drivers' hours and tachograph offences cost five drivers of Manchesterbased N Collis Transport £770 in fines and costs, when they appeared before the city's magistrates on 24 February.

Alan Poynter of Wythensh,awe admitted two offences of exceeding 41/2 hours' driving without taking a 45-minute break. He was said to have driven for seven hours 33 minutes and seven hours with breaks of only 33 and 32 minutes. He was fined £50 with £15 costs.

John Porter of Gorton admitted a similiar offence. He was said to have driven for seven hours 30 minutes with only a 26-minute break. He was fined £50 with £15 costs.

William Holt of Wythenshawe admitted a similar offence, having driven for five hours 30 minutes with no break at all. He too was fined 250 with 215 costs.

Brian Platt of Stockport said to have driven for five hours 26 minutes with one break of 17 minutes, also pleaded guilty. He was fined £50 and ordered to pay £25 costs.

Finally, Raymond Honey of Stockport admitted seven offences of falsifying tachograph charts and four drivers' hours offences.

The falsifications involved missing mileages of up to 30km. In addition, he had driven for a period of up to seven hours, five minutes, with the longest break being some 33 minutes. He was fined a total of £450 with £50 costs.
