• Reebur Ambulance is to hand over its first front-line ambulance to Clywd Health Authority this week.
One of an order for nine on Ford Transit chassis, the ambulance is the first vehicle to be produced at the Tibshelf, Chesterfield works using the jigs and designs acquired by parent company Reeve Burgess from Hanlon, Ireland (CM 2-8 February).
Work is also in progress on an order for 51 Transits for Humberside. Reebur is using the basic Hanlon design, but plans to change from ash framing to steel tube.
It also offers an ambulance interior conversion for the Renault Master: a demonstrator vehicle will be available in June. Reeve Burgess managing director David Quainton says that Reebur Ambulance will operate as a separate unit, with its own sales force under Ray Burbidge, but with Reeve Burgess senior management. He feels the trend to van conversions as front-line ambulances "has bottomed and may reverse", but stresses Reebur Ambulance's flexibility.
Production capacity at Tibshelf, close to the main Reeve Burgess Pitsley works, is 250 a year, and the work force is expected to increase to 60.
Quainton says that most ambulances are bought outright but the group can offer finance if needed. Reebur Ambulance's telephone number is now (0773) 590050.
