• THE TOTAL number of 0-licence applications received during the year ended 31 March 1988 reached 40,710 an increase of over 6% on the previous year.
However, the annual Reports of the Licensing Authorities also reveal: • The proportion of licences issued as applied for, reduced from 90.2% the year before, to 86%; • The number of licence applications refused fell by 22%; • There was a drop of almost 19.5% in the number of applications for 0-licences heard at a public inquiry; • A drop of 17.27% was recorded in the number of cases in which the LAs imposed a Section 69.
• Total number of Section 69s imposed because of drivers' hours, or tachograph offences dropped by almost 30%.
