HEREFORD operator Stretton Coaches has withdrawn its deregulated Hereford city bus services in the face of overwhelming competition from National Bus Company subsidiary Midland Red West. According to a Stretton spokesman, Midland Red had flooded the routes with its vehicles.
But the small independent operator has not given up for ever.
It is still operating school contracts and plans to establish another Hereford route in the future, although the exact nature is not being revealed for commercial reasons.
WEST MIDLANDS PTE is to buy 12 single-deck buses as possible successors to its Leyland Nationals.
Six Leyland Lynx and six Volvo Citybuses with Alexander bodywork have been ordered and are to be delivered by the end of October.
Metro-Cammell Weymann has told the PTE that it cannot deliver a single-deck prototype by October.
Its prototype Mark Three Metrobus double-decker should be ready then, and a single-deck version could follow.
