Pinder directs SPD special accounts

IN A MOVE to develop key accounts and specialist activities SPD Group the national high street distribution company acquired by the National Freight Consortium from Unilever at the beginning of the year has appointed Arthur Pinder to the position of director, special accounts.

In his 25 years with SPD Mr Pinder has held several senior positions and has been a board member for the past five. He set up Unispeed in 1969 and Carrycare in 1976.

Four new branch managers within other NFC subsidiaries have also been named. David Edwards, former Norwich branch manager with BRS Southern, transfers to BRS Midlands' Leicester branch. His place at Norwich has been taken by Mike Hosier, who has spent 26 years with the company, mostly at BRS Southern locations in Buckinghamshire.

Leigh Pomlett now manages BRS Midlands' Derby Branch, moving from the Hereford branch of BRS Western, where he was also manager.

The Chadwell Heath branch of BRS Southern, which is being developed as a regional distribution centre for London and the Home Counties, has a new general manager Tom Main. He was previously general manager of five East Anglian branches of the NFC subsidiary.

Meanwhile, British Road Services Truck Rental's longest serving branch manager, Peter Atkinson, has retired. He has been truck rental manager at BRS Southern's Newington Butts branch in north London since the service was launched in 1974. He is devoting his retirement to his lifelong passion trams, an example of which he bought from Leeds City Council in the Fifties.
