Ted Hains has been appointed director of road services, and has responsibility for P&O Road Services' general haulage and tanker companies as well as overall policy for operating and engineering functions.
Geoff Whitehead is the new director of international services. He is responsible for Ferrymasters, the container services and also the marketing, personnel, property and insurance functions of P&O European Transport Services.
A new South West regional director has been appointed for the Departments of the Environment and Transport.
He is Stanley Godsell, previously South-West regional controller (housing and planning) in the Department of the Environment. Mr Godsell, who has been acting regional director for the past three months, is based at Bristol and his area covers Cornwall, De von, Somerset, Avon, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Dorset.
Scania (Great Britain) has announced the appointment of Tony Ballinger as service manager, buses.
Mr Ballinger takes up his new position on April 1 and will be responsible for all service aspects of Scania's bus marketing activities in the UK. He has been with Scania since 1977 when he joined the company as a field service engineer.
Alan Townsin has relinquished his post as technical and public relations executive at the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport. He has left to take up a career in publishing.
National Tyre Services has promoted David Brannlund to manager of its newly formed sales division in south-west England. He is based at Plymouth and is responsible for six branches in Cornwall and three in Plymouth.
Harry Cole is the new sales manager at Frigoscandia's Kings' Lynn cold store. Before joining Frigoscandia he was assistant warehousing controller with Lewis's department store group. Mr Cole is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and has 10 years experience in storage and distribution.
Edward Borrill has been appointed estate development manager at London Transport. His duties include commercial development on London Transport land as well as planning and rating matters. Mr Borrill has been with London Transport since 1966.
David Michell has moved within the Lucas Group to become marketing manager of Lucas Kienzle Instruments.
Mr Michell graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and joined the Lucas Group in 1971. During his time with Lucas, he has spent 13 months in the company's Swedish office in Gothenburg.
