Casing Col lectors' Association wa: held last week, with Mr R Fogelman in the chair. The chairman, in his _r port, said that he and the committee had made every effort to secure benefit for the Association, and if they had had no success in the !natter of the M.O.S. dumps, it was because they had pressed for something denied to them on the ground that it would not warrant the employment of the necessary inan-power,.

The story of the Association's fight in connection with the percentage of usable tyres which were said to be on these dumps has been told in this journal Efforts are still being ma le, end lately a qtiestion nn this matter was asked in the House of Common;.

. The secretary, Mr. R. G. Kirkpatri:k, referred to a request received from the French authorities for details of tyre casings which members could offer for shipment to France. A possible scheme for. arranging for the purchase of these by the French was discussed, and it was expected that experts on used tyres would be coming over from France in the near future to examine stocks. Whilst the main negotiations as to grades and prices will be conducted by the Association, final business transactions will be between individual members and the authorities The Director of Tyrei, Lord Rothes. had been asked to permit access to the M.O.S. dumps by casing collectors in order to obtain., supplies for the fiberated countries. His reply to them was that, as regards the M.O.S dumps, the War Office was already looking over certain of these to see if there were any tyres which might be of use under the exceptional conditions prevailing in those countries. This does not, however, seem to be of much use in connection with meeting civilian requirements, as distinct-from those Of a military nature.

It was felt by members that casing collectors should not be penalized by being refused the right of replenishing their stocks which would be needed following endeavours to assist the liberated countries.

Incidentally,,Mr k A Cressall, J.P., of the Cressall Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., Was appointed chairman of the Association.
