MR. J. A. P,munas, manager of the Cooperative Wholesale Society's motor body-building . department at Vere Street, Salford, Lanes, has been appointed general manager of the motor department. He has been with the C,W.S. for many years.
MR.' J. J. TIENsox has been appointed Chief Assistant to-Mr. J. Fl. Stirk, Regional Transport Commissioner, Nottingham. He replaces Mn. H. Mayo, M.B.E.,
who becomes Assistant Director of Sea Transport, M.O.W.T. headquarters.
MAroR C. N. CHRISTENSEN, R.E., managing, director of North-Western Transport Services, Ltd., of Salford, having • already been mentioned in despatches, has now been awarded the American Order of the Legion of Merit (Officers Class) for services rendered in North Africa and Italy.

Naval Ordnance, who was the Dunlop' commercial-vehicle representative at Nottingham, has been elected an associate member of the Institution of Errgineering Inspectors. He joined the Dunlop concern in 1928 and holds a diploma in mechanical and automobile engineering.
Ma. WILLIAM If. HIGGINBOTHAM has been elected ehairman of Edgar Allen and Co., Ltd., Sheffield, in succession
to the late Mr. C. K. Everitt, He joined the company in 1930 as secretary, a position which he now relinquishes, and became a director in 1933. He has since been in charge of . the financial side of the company's activities.
MR. H. L. SATCHELL conanienced his duties at the beginning of the month as manager of the Rugby works of the British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd. He took up • an apprenticeship. with the company in 1920, and, being awarded a B.T.H. Fellowship; went, in December, 1922, to the General Electric Co, of America for a year. On his return he became technical assistant to the head of the winding department, In May, 1929, he was appointed planning engineer; "in June, 19404 assistant manager, and in January, 1945, associatemanager. He succeeds MR. A; P. Youxo, who recently retired after 44years' service with the company.
MR H. Lexsox has been appointed District Transport Officer, Liverpool, in succession to MR. J. S. DARBYSITTRE, who has taken up an appointment in the office of the Registrar of-Merchant Seamen and Shipping, at Cardiff. Mr. Lennox had been' D.T.O. at Bolton before taking up the position of chief assistant to the Regional Port Director, Hull, three years ago.
DR. RONALD EPEY LANE, who for almost 17 years has been " works, doctor " at the Exide battery factory of the Chlorids Electrical .Storage Ltd., at Clifton Junction; Manchester, will in the autumn take up a newly created position—the Chair of Industrial Health' at .Manchester University. It is the first Chair of this kind in the country, and has been made possible by a Nuffield Foundation grant.
MR. W. F. JAMES has been appointed chairman of Gateshead and District Tramways Co., Tynernouth and 'District Transport Co., Ltd., and of Wakefield's Motors, Ltd., in succession to MR. R. j. HowhaV. The latter is retaining his directorship of the Gateshead Company, but has resigned from the boards of the Tynernouth and Wakefield's concerns. All these three companies are associate .1 with the British Electric Traction Co., Ltd., of which Mr. Howley is chairman.
.CAPTAIN NV. N. COLLINS, M.1.A.E., F.I.M.T., has resigned his position as Deputy Director of Mechanization, M.O.S., to join the board of F. Perkins, Ltd., . Peterborough, as a director on special duties. It is understood that, later, he will be in charge of Perkins's service facilities, Trained as an engineer with the Central Marine Engine Works, Ltd., of Hartlepool, and 'the Austin Motor Co., Ltd., when the present war broke out he was general service manager of Stewart and Ardern, Ltd, During the war of 1914-18, he was a regular officer with the Seaforth Highlanders, 51st Division, and the Indian Army, serving ia France and Belgium and, later, in the Waziristan Campaign, being invalided out of the Service with wounds. Early in this war he was nominated by the as Chief Technical Assistant -to MajorGeneral J. S. Crawford, C.B.E., then Director of Mechanization, and concerned with the organization of Army vehicle repair plans in conjunction with the motor industry, later extended to cover repairs to other Government transport and the disposal of surplus Government vehicles. Following a reorganization, Captain Collins became Assistant Director of Mechanization, and then Deputy Director under Mr. J. Masterton, when that ,efficient department of the M.O.S„ known as T.T.3, commenced its work.
