Venerable Cabby's rflATT1NG over old times Views on the Newthe other day with a
vehicle Prospects . Londa cabby, we were sur prised to learn that he had been driving, as far back as 1903, a single-cylinder De Dion. It was, of course, not a taxi, he being then engaged on private service. He had some terse observations to make regarding the "modern " cab. Some years ago he attended a luncheon when the late Lord Austin (he was then Sir Herbert) promised the cab trade a sedan-type which would carry four people in comfort, and with the driver at the back. This, however, did not eventuate, because, apparently, the
police would not approve of such a vehicle. He takes the view that anyone who attempts to design a more modern type of cab for London will have an extremely difficult task to overcome the antiquated rules by which cabs in the Metropolis are so circumscribed in this respect. Two of the many requirements are that the driver must see his head lamps and that he must not have a passenger by his side. There is also the question of the limited turning circle. We will not, at this point, go into other details.
Lost Limbs need not A CCORDING to Dr. Donald Prejudice Employ1-11-lunter, lecturer on Re menE search in Industrial Medicine, at a recent conference at the London School of Hygiene, Henry Ford has said that there were more jobs in Mechanized industry f or a man without an arm than for a man with two arms. Under discussion were the subjects of the rehabilitation of the physically disabled, and the employment of the physically unfit, also the possibility of fitting the man to the job, and not the job to the man. Henry Ford's words suggest the possibility and the practicability of orienting the method of approach on those lines. Fluorescent , Lighting rIEVELOPMENTS in fluor,

Gas Producer in Paris A CCORDING to a recent Causes Big Explosions I-1 paragraph in the "Daily of Munitions. . . Express," in Paris the driver
of a lorry equipped with a gas producer set the gas ablaze while rekindling the fire, using a bundle of burning paper. The flames spread to other vehicles laden with ammunition, and resulted in violent explosions over a period of several hours, causing considerable damage . to buildings. This emphasizes the need for taking precautions when dealing with gas producers.
