Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A RARE OPPORTUNITY has arisen for road transport experts to fill three vacancies on the prestigious transport tribunal.

Consisting of six legally qualified members, and six transport members, the tribunal reviews decisions made by Traffic Commissioners.

Following three retirements, the Judicial Appointments Commission is running a selection process to find replacements.

“Applicants need to have been a senior manager involved in sizeable road passenger [PSV] and/or freight businesses, with experience of both operational and maintenance activities,” says tribunal member John Robinson.

The role is fee-paid and will involve hearing cases in London and Glasgow. Preparatory reading and work on decisions will take up approximately 20-25 days a year, for proceedings that usually last for one day. Travel and accommodation for tribunal hearings are arranged.

“The role makes you think and allows you to work with very impressive people,” adds Robinson. “It could be another decade until the next opportunity to get involved in this tribunal comes along, so don’t dither about applying.” The selection process will involve an application form, and those shortlisted will be invited to an interview. Successful applicants will be appointed for a renewable period of five years.
