How do operators feel at the moment? We offered 10 sentiments, and allowed respondents to tick as many as applied to them. The overall order looks like this: ● Uncertain – 45% ● Demoralised – 42% ● Stressed – 42% ● Busy – 30% ● Worried – 27% ● Abused – 19% ● Secure – 8% ● Appreciated – 6% ● Excited – 5% ● Rewarded – 3% So, it’s no surprise that the negative emotions dominate, although it should be noted that nearly a third ticked ‘busy’.

More than half of hire and reward hauliers (58%) said they were demoralised, with stress hitting 51% of them, making that the second most popular sentiment in this sector. Stress was top among logistics and contract distribution firms, affecting 54% of them, with uncertainty ranking second (50%). Uncertainty afflicted a significant minority of own account operators (44%), ranking first ahead of busy (32%).
