• One of north-west England's best-known hauliers, Katnrriac Trucking of Burscough, Lancashire, has gone into receivership. As Commercial Motor went to press several major operators were in last-minute talks to save the company, which employs 130 and runs 86 trucks.

Managing director Paul ICatnel says the company has hit sudden and severe cash flow problems for "a good reason which has nothing to do with the way the company is being run." The company has no operational problems and is endeavouring to save jobs.

Karimiac, which has an annual turnover of £5 million, is reported to owe £2 million. The official administrative receiver, David Wood of Manchester-based chartered accountant Latham, Crossley and Davis, was called in last week. His representatives say debts are being calculated and a buyer for the company is being sought.

It is likely that the company will be sold as a going concern.

Several rumours about the financial state of the company have appeared in local press, but 'camel is determined to scotch these. "We are a good company, well known in the industry and we don't want bad publicity from this," he says.

A self-employed-drivers' scheme run by the company was hit by controversy four years ago when the RHA called it "illegal". The company later won a Transport Tribunal ruling on the matter.
