Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Vehicle manufacturers have been warned to expect strikes this autumn when the next round of pay talks is due to take place.

The warning comes from the pay research specialist Incomes Data Services. It says that booming productivity, which strengthened union bargaining positions during negotiations earlier this year, shows few signs of slowing down.

Jaguar, Peugeot-Talbot, Nissan and the Rover Group are most likely to be affected, and pay negotiations should kick off with high expectations with managements and the unions aiming for an agreement similar to Ford's two-year deal.
