• A portable weighing device, designed to catch overladen trucks, is being used in trials with the Metropolitan Police in West London.
The system, featuring a series of pressure pads to give an instant reading, can be used to identify suspect vehicles which are then sent to a weighbridge.
The West German manufacturer claims that each pad can measure weights up to 10 tonnes with an accuracy of 50kg, and that 200 vehicles an hour can be processed.
