Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE GOVERNMENT wants urgent action from the Greater London Council to end the controversial Talgarth Road experiment on the A4 in West London.

Transport Secretary Nicholas Ridley has sent a letter to GLC transport committee chairman Dave Wetzel demanding to see all the traffic assessments "so that I can judge what steps I might need to take".

The introduction of a right turn for eastbound traffic at the junction of Talgarth Road and North End Road on the A4 as it approaches Hammersmith has led to traffic jams stretching back well beyond the Heston service area on the M4.

The scheme was introduced three weeks ago by the GLC in an attempt to stop traffic going through the residential area just to the north of Talgarth Road.

Nearly 40 Tory MPs have signed a Commons motion calling for an end to the experiment.

Mr Wetzel has refused to do so after such a short time because such action would devalue the experiment.

The Government is determined to pin full responsibility for the delays firmly on the shoulders of the GLC by pointing out that it wants to see the original position restored.

The GLC wants the experiment to run for six months and is trying to discourage motorists from driving into London.
