ROADLINE UK driver Jimmy Donovan has followed the example of his colleague Tom Curran's courageous conduct. He has won himself a National Freight bravery award and is one of the candidates for this year's CM Mark Vane Award.
Mr Donovan, who has been a Roadline UK driver in London for nine years, received the NFC chairman's award for bravery last week at a ceremony at the company's Bermondsey depot.
This was for his efforts in stopping an attempt to steal goods from the back of his van in West London earlier this year. Two theives brutally attacked him and forced him to hand over the keys for the vehicle, but he refused to tell them how to stop the vehicle alarm or open the rear door.
After 20 minutes, 61-year-old Mr Donovan was dumped near a canal and he needed hospital treatment.
National Freight has nominated him for CM's Mark Vane Award for the driver who has shown most courtesy or bravery on the roads in the year to October 31 this year.
