IN SPITE OF LAUNCHING Its new £2000 panel van midway through the year, Mazda Cars (UK) expects to sell 1,000 vehicles by the end of 1984, with 1985 sales rising to 2,000 units.
The latest one-ton panel van will still be subject to the "gentleman's agreement" between the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the Japan Automobile Manufacturing Assotiation which effectively restricts Japanese light commercial vehicle manufactures to 11 per cent of the UK light cv market.
Among the importers in the 1.8-2.5 tons gvw medium van/pick-up market for January to March of this year, Mazda gained fifth position 11Vith a market share of four per cent based on B1800 pickup and £1600 van sales behind Toyota, ford (South • Africa) and the P100, Volks'11Vagen and leaders Renault which took 7.85 per cent. Top selling vehicles in the imported sector are the Renauft Trafic and VW Trans, porter, while the top selling Japanese manufacturer is 'lloyota followed by Mazda.
