Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I AM a regular reader of The Commercial Motor. How I is it that you haven't had an article about the Midland Red double-decker bus with the Gyro flywheel in it, when a popular science magazine has published it in a May issue?

I enjoyed your road test of the Mercedes-Benz 35-cwt. van, but I think the motor manufacturers of Great Britain are slipping in selling commercial vehicles in Canada. In Winnipeg one laundry has over 15 German 35-cwt. diesel vans; two dairies have them on trial, and a large store is using one. There are no English diesels in Winnipeg. Ford and Bedford are the only English commercial vehicles in any number, with a Commer and a few Austins and Morris. What's the matter with the English manufacturers, letting the Germans get a way ahead of them? This place is overflowing with German vehicles.

1 could have sold the Winnipeg Transit System some English diesel buses, but the English company concerned wouldn't take the chance in sending a demonstrator over here. I hope the English manufacturers wake up before it's too late.

Fair And Practicable Tests

I NOTICE from your report of the Birmingham eliminator I for this year's Lorry Driver of the Year Contest, that it would appear that I was in doubt as to the fairness of the loading-bay test.

As national clerk to the course for the competition as a whole, I have been responsible for the detailed measurements, etc., of all tests, and these instructions have gone out to all eliminating centres.

I am somewhat perturbed, therefore, that the clerk of the course at other eliminating centres, may, on reading your report, decide to alter the measurements for this test, on the grounds that I appeared to doubt their practicability.

For the sake of the record, all tests were tried out with all classes of vehicles eligible. The confidential measurements and layout instructions as issued by the national committee are perfectly fair and practicable, and should be strictly adhered to by all organizers.

Walsall. G. W. ASTON.
