Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DETAILS of the Nuffield version of the American Jeep, -which, have just been announced, reveal that it has a four-cylindered petrol engine, five-speed all-synchromesh gearbox, four-wheel drive, and full independent suspension using torsion bars. The power unit, which has a nominal output of 80 b.h.p. at 3,750 r.p.rn.. has overhead inlet valves and side exhaust valves. Its capacity is 2.838 litres and it runs on a compression ratio of 6.4 to 1.

Only forward-speed gears are fitted in the gearbox, their form being of the single helical constant-mesh • type. ()ear progression is geometrical. The reverse ratio is incorporated in the rear-axle casing. Hypoid-bevel :gears are used in both axles, the casings of which are, resiliently mounted on the suspension cross-members; The transfer case, together with the winch-drive take-off, are • made as integral units with the rear-axle assembly, a feature in design necessitated by the adoption of a cruciform frame and the need for symmetry about the differential casing of the front-axle drive.

A trapezoidal wishbone layout is adopted for the main suspension system; the lower members • of the wishbone actuate torsion bars arranged longitudinally in the chassis.

Divided-type wheels with 4.50 rims are fitted with 6.5.0 by 16 tyres. Other features include rack and pinion steering, telescopic hydraulic spring dampers, 10-bladed fan with 'friction clutch, and a 24-volt electrical system. Maximum road speed is given-as over 60 mph,
