MR. J. BI AKE MIDDLETON has succeeded SIR ALEXANDER MCCOLL as a director of the Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd.. and will haVe charge of the manufacturing department. He will be responsible for the design, construction and initial operation of the proposed refinery at Coryton.

LISBON BUS TRAFFIC RISES WITH an increase in the bus fleet of PV Lisbon Electric Tramways, Ltd., to 145 vehicles, the buses last year carried 82.49 per cent, more passengers than in 1948 and ran 90.38 per cent. more miles. Traffic for the whole undertaking was a record. The company now runs 21) bus services and is considering using more double-deckers.
