Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Words: Andy Satter IVECO HAS TAKEN the wraps off its new line-up of EcoDaily light commercial vehicles, which now offers a 7.0-tonne G VW version and low and zero-emission engine options.

The new van will be available in the UK from September, and while it may seem a hold move to be launching a new product in these difficult economic times, the Italian truck-maker believes the market has now bottomed out, and the EcoDaily will kick-start the company's sales.

One of the key developments of the new range is the extension of the maximum operating weight to seven tonnes. This new addition, given the model number 70E17, offers a 4.140kg payload in panel van format, while the chassis-cab version brings a payload plus body capability of 4,710kg. Power for the seven-tonner comes from a 3.0-litre diesel, produced by sister company Fiat Powertrain; and in its low-emission format now features twin-turbochargers that give improved driveability as well as enhancing the environmental credentials of the vehicle.

Engine options The EcoDaily line-up is extensive. In van form, there are eight volume

options, which range from 7.3m3 to the colossal 17.2m version; there are three wheelbase versions of the van, while the chassis-cab option gives six wheelbase choices from 3,000mm to 4,750mm.

Five new engine options join the line-up. The 2.3-litre powerplant is now offered in 106hp and 126hp formats, joining the existing 96hp, 116hp and 136hp power offerings, while the 3.0-litre power unit is offered in 146hp and 176hp. New EEV low-emission engines now join the range, satisfying the voluntary standard and have been designed with Euro-6 legislation in mind. The EEV line-up covers 140hp and 170hp diesel options, using the same 3.0-litre engine as the non-EEV product, but now employs twin turbochargers.

A natural gas version joins the line-up for the first time, and boasts 136hp. And for zero-emission applications. Iveco has an all-new electric van in this range.

Design changes Subtle design changes to the exteriors help make the vehicles look new enough to justify the investment, while not making the older product obsolete, and thus destroying residual values. The key difference is the new grille and front styling and rear light cluster.

On the inside, the updates are more significant. There has been a decent overhaul of the dashboard, and the positioning of the switch gear has been modified. A new -aluminium-effectcentre console also helps to break up the black plastic. Storage has been improved, there is a new deep bin in the centre console of the dash at foot level, and the seats benefit from new upholstery, and still retain their comfort. •
