Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Higher powered versions of Dennis Eagle's new Elite chassis-cab (CM 25 June-1 July) are likely to have MAN engines. The latest 6.9-litre D0826LF diesel, revealed last February, develops 198kW (266hp) which would provide adequate performance for a 24.4, or even 26-tonne Dennis 6x4 refuse collection vehicle.

The low mounted crew-cab is located well forward — so engine dimensions, particularly height, are critical to the design of the Elite chassis. Engine protrusion above frame-top level behind the cab must be kept to a minimum, especially for van or platform bodywork installations.

Compared with an alternative proprietary engine of similar power, like the Cummins 8.3 litre B-Series, the six-cylinder MAN diesel offers loadspace and payload advantages.
