Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Volvo has launched a more powerful version of its FS7 light distribution tractor in anticipation of the 35-tonne weight limit for four-axle drawbars and tractive units, expected on 1 January 1993. It now has the 6.7-litre low-emission TD73ES engine which has been fitted to the FL7 since last September. Power is boosted from the pre vious 169kW (230hp) at 2,400rpm to 191kW (260hp) at the same speed. Torque rises 25%, from 825Nm (6101bft) at 1,4 0Orpm to 1,0 4 ONm (7691bft), also at 1,400rpm. The charge-cooled TD73ES engine becomes standard in the FS7 while the lower output TD73E remains as an option.

The FS7 rubber cab suspension has also been redesigned, with Vshaped rubber supports and hydraulic dampers front and rear. Linkages are fitted to reduce horizontal travel and improve the ride.

No further modification is needed for op eration at the higher gross weight as the FS7, which has the same narrow cab as the FL618 17-tonner, is designed to run at 36 tonnes GVW/GCW. The driveline is unchanged with the R1000 nine-speed rangechange gearbox and RAEV 85 drive axle rated at 11.5 tonnes. Price remains the same but customers opting for the less powerful TD73E engine will make a £250 saving.

There is still no official word on whether Volvo will fit the FS7 cab to a six-wheel tipper (CM 5-11 March).

El Volvo has also released details of a vehicle alarm system, suitable for all its trucks. Doors, batteries, front grille and the cab tilt mechanism are all covered by the basic system. Prices for the alarm system start at £326 (ex-VAT) including control unit.
