Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The recently liquidated Speedwell Group has returned its 0-licence discs and its licence to North Western Licensing Authority Martin Albu after failing to appeal against a revo cation order made on 14 June. The group, which included parcels carrier Nexday Express, had been given 14 days to advance fresh information to enable directors to retain an 0-licence, but it declined to do so.

Now it will receive refunds for each full year the licence, which expires in 1994, is not used.

This means that plans by former Speedwell owner Fred Stevens to continue a haulage service under the name STD Ltd are unlikely to proceed.

The Speedwell Group was liquidated last month (CM 11-17 June) with debts of 33m.

Charrington Contract Hire has asked for the remaining vehicles to be returned.
