Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

In the issue of Commercial Motor Workshop published in April, you ran an article on noise. In the article you show two photographs of the Foden Quiet Heavy Vehicle of the 1970's and comment on the effect of noise treatment on maintenance.

Your article refers to the vehicle as "a maintenance nightmare"; the facts do not warrant such a statement.

This vehicle was operated for a period of two years by a well known haulage contractor and maintenance costs monitored by TRRL.

The increase in maintenance costs attributable to the noise attenuation equipment represented 1.53%; hardly a maintenance nightmare.

Foden Trucks is continuing to work with the Transport & Road Research Laboratory towards developing vehicles that are both "environmentally friendly" and cost effective for the operator.
