THE TRADE unions involved in the testing of heavy goods al passenger vehicles were this week reporting back to Transpc Secretary Tom King their response to Government proposals hand over the service to Lloyd's Register Vehicle Testing Authorit,
Mr King, or his deputy Mrs Lynda Chalker, is now expected to make a statement before the end of the month indicating when the transfer will take place — after the original target date of July 1.
Junior Government Spokesman Lord Lucas told Peers that the unions were reporting back on Wednesday about the question of special compensation for staff who would be financially worse off as a result of the transfer. There were no difficulties whi could not be overcome. "So as I am aware Lloyd's rem; extremely keen and are pursui the negotiations for transfer w energy and enthusiasm."
