IF you are going to an EEC country and are not insured against illness, you need to be in top form, starting with SA30/1982 from the Department of Health and Social Security. To get medical treatment you must produce Form E111 (or 111 in West Germany). Either of these can be had by filling in Form CM1 at the back of SA30. If you can't get E111 or 111 before leaving home and need medical attention abroad, the authorities should be asked to send Form E107 to the DHSS overseas branch.
With Elli the DHSS will enclose leaflet SA36, which tells you, among other things, about the forms you need. By this time death will seem infinitely preferable and Customs Notice No 1 on duty-free imports will become a jest in dubious taste.
