IN RESPONSE to Mr D. C. Barnett's letter inCM of June 11, because I was speaking extempore at the BAR conference in Brighton. I hope I did not say anything which was misleading to your reporter.

In fact, I did actually report the figure quoted by Mr Barnett. The problem I was talking about was the difficulty of making suggestions as to how the furniture removers' levy money should be split up in grants without knowing how much money there was likely to be in • the "Sector pool" in the years 1982/83 or 1983/84.

I was not actually, on this occasion, being critical of the RTITB but rather of the statutory rules which appear to make it impossible for them to reveal, even in confidence, some financial information which would be helpful to us in planning the training policy for our industry.

As Mr Barnett knows, the furniture removal sector has requested a much closer involvement in running and arranging its own industrial training and we are now anxious to start getting on with that job. H. WILSON Director British Assocation of Removers
