Although cover is provided until the vehicles are five years old, membership is not transferable.

Operators registering under the scheme are issued with a credit card for each vehicle and no charges are made for enrol ment or administration although an eight per cent service charge is added to the cost of any work carried out.

If the vehicle cannot be repaired by the roadside, it will be taken to the nearest dealer. If the costs of repairs exceeds £400, then the balance will be required in cash although extra credit may be arranged, says Karrier.

The scheme is operated on Renault's behalf by the same company, Mondial Assistance, in every country.

Credit facilities are currently restricted to vehicles operating in the UK and France but Karrier claims that the card confers the right to help from Assistance agents in 18 countries.
