Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A FIVE-SPEED gearbox is now St Range Rovers.

Coupled to the Land Rover LT23OR transfer box — introduced last year on the Range Rover automatic — the new gearbox provides 10 forward and two reverse gears.

The new box is not just an overdrive version of the original four-speed unit; according to Land Rover it has been designed for "optimum tuning of ratios to derive full benefit from the 3.5 litre V8 engine".

The ratios of the five-speed gearbox are 3.32, 2.13, 1.40, 1.00 and 0.77 to 1.

The new gearbox is known as the 77mm box, which represents the dimension between the main shaft and the first motion shaft.

The V8 engine develops 93kW (125bhp) at 4,000rpm, which permits 25.8mph per 1,000rpm in the overdrive ratio.

Land Rover claims that the new gearbox will improve the fuel economy by about 10 per cent, with a 25 per cent improvement in acceleration times for 30 to 50,40 to 60 and 50 to 70mph.

The total price (including vat) for the two-door Range Rover is £14,482 compared with the £15,373 for the four-door version.
