In an effort to combat this Smiths Industries Ltd has introduced a return-of-post flexible drive service, offering fast replacement of non-standard flexible drives for an excess charge of 10 per cent of the retail price.

An 11-page leaflet from Smiths explains the methods of identification and ordering, and also features a series of "recognition chartsthat allow accurate ordering in cases where the flex code or a sample flex cannot be sent.
