Another major feature of the year had been the largest increase in fares levels yet implemented by the company bus operators. And the warning is given that in the course of 1971 and 1972 the NBC, in order to keep solvent as a going concern, might be obliged to reduce further the volume of service provided.

Conversion of stage carriage services to one-man operation was extended to more than 33i per cent of the mileage run in 1970, from 25 per cent in 1969.
