MR. PAUL N. MATFON, managing director of Trico-Folberth, Ltd., flew to America last Friday and will return on August 5. He will visit the Buffalo and Canadian plants of Trico Products Corporation, Buffalo, New York, MR. T. Coaatr. has been appointed president of the Scottish Motor Trade Association in succession to MR. H. E. GIBBON. MR. GEORGE M, GOUD1E has been elected retailer vice-president-and Mr. Gibbon immediate past-president. The non-retailer vice-president will be elected later. The honorary treasurer is MR. S. J. HUTCHESON. DR. J. H. PAlERSON, F.R.I.C., has been elected president of the Institute of Welding. MR. 0. V. S. Buunn, M.I.MEat.E., is vice-president, and MR. W. E. HARRISS, honorary treasurer. MR. 1. L. ADAM, C.B.E., M.I.N.A., was the previous president.
MR. S. M. CAFFYN, president of the Motor Agents' Association, is a member of the committee set up to advise the President of the Board of Trade on the preparation of forms and instructions for the national census of the distributive and service trades, which is to be taken in 1950 in respect of 1949.
MR. Tom BROWN, M.E.ME.cH.E., M.S.A.E., M.I.LA., chief engineer of .Morris Motors, Ltd., engines branch, is resigning at the end of this month to become managing director of the Sheepbridge Stokes Centrifugal Casting Co., Ltd. He will have a seat on the board of the Automotive Engineering Co., Ltd., and other subsidiary companies.
M. 1. V. FRANKLIN, managing director of Black and Decker, Ltd., who has just returned from a business trip to Spain, reports that MR. HARRY WALKER, representative in Barcelona of a large number of leading concerns in the British motor industry, has now recovered from a serious illness which he recently contracted while in the United Kingdom.

• Wharf Cartage Co., Ltd.. and Carter Paterson and Co., Ltd., has been appointed general manager of the group. As executive head of the Hay's Wharf Cartage group, he will be in charge of a staff of some 12,000 and a fleet of over 3,000 motor vehicles, 1,000 trailers and 350 horses. He has served on various financial committees of the Road Haulage Association.
