100 New Titan 56-seaters for London Transport Have Novel Features

VENTILATION and the comfort of V the driver have been specially studied in the new 100 Leyland Titan oil-engined 56-seater buses for London Transport. In .order to keep the cab floor cool, a foot-operated ventilator is incorporated in the off-side headlamp mounting. Incidentally, this sventila

tor is combined with the bulb-horn mounting and forms the mouth of the horn, • A ventilator is mounted above the opening windscreen, whilst on the near side of the cab there is a sliding window, the frame of which can also be opened in eniergericy. In such an event, the catch can be operated from inside the cab or from the outside.

A hinged shield is located. normally against the roofof the cab, but can be lowered and clipped against the near-side pillar of the windscreen to prevent the light from the saloon from being reflected by' the windscreen into the driver's eyes. An adjustable seat is another contribution to the driver's comfort, whilst even the signal bell is muffled.

The steel-framed body is well venti

lated. Air drawn from a duct in -the front bulkhead of the lower saloon on the near side divides into two streams and passes into the lower saloon. Similar means for ventilation are provided in the upper saloon. In addition,. fresh air' may be obtained through the half-drop windows on both decks.
