In the year ended March 31, 1937, 1,217 lorries, vans and buses, of a value of Rs: 33.1 lakhs, were imported into India from the United Kingdom, both figures showing an advance on the, previous year's totals. The American figure was much larger, the 6,012 vehicles imported having a value of Rs. 67.9 lakhs The Canadian total was also higher than the United Kingdom aggregate, although the Value of the 1,719 vehicles imported was lower at Rs. 23.2 lakhs. These are the three chief suppliers of vehicles to India. The total for the year in question was made upto 9,160 by 212 vehicles imported from other countries.

_These figures are contained in a survey of the import trade of India issued by the Department of Overseas Trade, and they show .that, . whilst there has been a: small increase in the total -imports sharedbetween the United. Kingdom and America,' there was an appreciable decline in the imports from Canada.

He was also a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. . • Dodge Convoy Still Touring. . , A convoy of Dodge • commercial vehicles is to tour the Liverpool area controlled by Messrs. Ryders Motors, Aintree Road, Bootle, from July 12 to 16 inclusive. It will range from the 30-cwt. forward-control drop-sided . lorry to the 4-ton long-wheelbase lorry with a similar type of body.

Fordson Tractor Price Changes. The Ford Motor Co., Ltd., Dagenham, announces alterations in flip

prices of the Fordson tractor. The agricultural model with cleated ,wheels now sells at £145, and with spade lugs at £150, the price of the land utility. Model, with pneumatic tyres, being £190, whilst the row-ciOP tractor' sells at £172. The price of the Fordson eight-cylinder 25-mkt. lorry is now £200"

London Buys Oil-engined . • Fire-fighter. • .What is believed to be the first fireengine in this country to be equipped with an oil engine has .lately been ordered from Leyland Motors, Ltd., by the London Fire Brigade. The chassis and body details are similar to the Leyland limousine-type fire-engines previously supplied to the brigade. The major alteration lies in the replacementof the 115 b.h.p. six-cylindered petrol engine by an 8.6-litre direct-injection oil engine.

This type of fire-fighter carries extensive breathing apparatus, in addition to an 820-1,000 g.p.m. pump. Suction hose will be carried. in tunnels alongside the chassis frame, and a 40-ft. extension ladder will be accommodated in a trough on the roof.
