THE SIXTH EDITION of the Approved Code of Practice and guidance has been published, providing practical advice to help duty holders who have to deal with the requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations. It also takes account of regulatory changes following the introduction of the EU Regulations for Reach (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) and CLP (European Regulation [EC] 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures). The publication is for duty holders and health and safety professionals.

NORTHERN IRELAND traffic regulator Donald Armstrong will be the keynote speaker at the Freight Transport Association's Transport Manager conference in Belfast on 27 March. During his presentation, Armstrong will talk about the role of the Transport Regulation Unit; its progress since going live in July 2012; problems with non-compliant operators in the province and discuss case study examples. Key sessions at the event include: Driver and Vehicle Agency enforcement procedures; load security; the HGV UK road user levy and cyclist safety.

TESTS FOR DIESEL cars and heavy vehicles are to be tightened up to ensure vehicles have a critical exhaust filter if one had originally been fitted as standard, roads minister Robert Goodwill has announced. Testing stations will check for a diesel particulate filter during LGV annual test from February.
