Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Anyone booking an HGV driving test to be taken after September this year will be facing a more difficult test.

The Driving Standards Agency has announced it is bringing the HGV test in line with European legislation and has made a few changes, mostly centring around checking the vehicle and reversing skills.

After 3 September, test candidates will have to demonstrate that they are competent to carry out a series of pre-driving safety checks.

They will have to answer questions showing that they know how to check fluid levels, wheel nuts, safety equipment (such as reversing alarms) and all instruments including the tachograph. They might also be asked about load restraint, and will also reverse the vehicle into a simulated 'loading bay' and stop close enough for the vehicle to be 'unloaded'.

The biggest changes are being made to the C+E or artic test, where candidates will have to park the artic next to the trailer after uncoupling. They will then have to re-align the unit in front of the trailer and recouple them.

Despite the changes, the Driving Standards Agency says the length of the test will still be approximately one hour 30 minutes.
