Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A truck driver may have died in a motorway fire as a result of a tanker driver being unable to hand over his fire extinguisher.

The incident happened at around 3am on 20 December on the M25 at J26, Waltham Abbey when a parcel truck crashed into a Sainsbury's vehicle.

Essex police are now waiting to find out whether the driver's death resulted from the crash or the blaze. A spokesperson says: "Once we have had a chance to look at the post mortem and investigate how the man died, further decisions can be made as to how we proceed with the investigation."

A nearby motorist stopped to help the driver of the crashed truck after his cab caught alight. After emptying his own fire extinguisher, he claims he then approached a TDG tanker driver in the tailback for ha. However, he was unable to help saying that he could not move legally without one on-board his vehicle.

A spokesperson for TOG says the driver was unaware that anyone was trapped inside the cab of the parcel vehicle. "Given the potential consequences of a fire close to a fullyladen tanker, he took what he believed was the safest course of action at the time."
